There are 2 methods of hair transplantation
- FUE ( Follicle Unit Extraction)  in this technique individual  follicle is extracted from the donor area and is implanted into the recipient area. This technique is usually called the suture less technique and with this technique approximately 5000 to 6000 follicles can be transplanted.
- FUT ( Follicular Unit Transplant ). In FUT a strip of skin is excised from the back of the scalp i.e from the permanent hair zone and the follicles are then extracted by slivering method and these follicles are then implanted into the recipient zone. The donor area is then closed with absorbable suture with a special technique which makes the scar almost invisible once the hair growth is completed in the donor zone. This technique is usually performed as a treatment of choice by the plastic surgeons as in this technique a single invisible scar is given which heals very well and the density of the donor zone is not affected at all.
About the procedure
What happens during the day of surgery.?
On the day of surgery, the patient is called early morning after having a light breakfast meal and thoroughly washing his head with a mild antiseptic solution. On arrival, Â the patient consent is taken and the hairline is marked by the operating surgeon. Â the hairline marking is the most important step of hair transplant and needs great expertise and good learning to avoid you to look artificial and for the best and natural hair transplant results.
After marking the hairline the required area of the donor site is shaved and as discussed and consented by the patient the technique of hair transplant is selected and the procedure is startedWith the all available emergency drugs and equipments present at a standby
The donor area is numbed with local anesthesia and thereafter there is no pain and you are comfortably lying
Since the surgery is done under local anesthesia the patient is free to take short breaks or tea coffee during the procedure whenever he wants to .
 Hair transplant takes approximately 6 to 8 hours to complete and by the end of the procedure the patient can comfortably go home.
The post op instructions are provided to the patient and he is advised to take antibiotics and painkillers.
First follow up is done on post of day 4 when head wash is given and the recipient as well as donor area is inspected by the treating surgeon.
Post procedure
In the initial phases Of hair transplant, the implanted hair will fall but the follicles will take their place and regenerate the new hair which will be permanent and healthy.
The actual results of hair transplant will appear main 9 months post transplant. during these period of 9 months you may be advisedPRPs or GFC depending upon the health of your scalp as advised by your treating surgeon.
